No way! You shouldn't do that! They can use that number to transfer money into their account via the internet and other sources. Western Union, Paypal, or a mailed money order is a WAY better idea.

Not safe and yes they can. Your bank can advise you how to protect your account both on-line and in a branch. If you have a problem with someone taking money out of your account, the bank will tell you how to sort it out.

If it's your mom, it's probably safe. If it's some company claiming they'll pay you money, it's more likely a scam, so don't do it.

Don't EVER give someone you don't know your bank account number! Have them pay you in cash, check, or by Paypal, but don't ever give them access to your account.

If you don't believe me, call your bank and ask them directly.

If it is for a wire transfer yes it is safe. Don't listen to these other answers. Once the money is in your account, it cannot be reversed without your authorization. There is no need to give the branch information.

Here are domestic wiring instructions....

Name of your bank
Your Bank's ABA (9 digit number)
Beneficiary name- that appears on your account
Your account number.

There is nothing to be afraid of. Plus if this person wanted to withdraw money from your account- it would be impossible if he/she just had your account number.

Don't worry about it.
