Any advice on requesting a business to become a financial sponser?

Recently my family and I took over a Christion radio statio in our area. Some people have advised us to contact local business (many of which are in the oil and gasoline industries) in search of financial sponsership, considering the advantages they would be able to obtain concerning taxes (for donations) and such. We're not sure how to exactly go about actually contacting them, any advice?
