I use Scottrade because they have many no-load no-transaction fee mutual funds.

1. Never buy a mutual fund with a load.
2. Never buy a mutual fund with a transaction fee.
3. Use Dollar cost Averaging.

Yahoo Finance is also good for finding funds.

My favorites have been
UMREX
UMESX
USCOX
USERX

Remember, just like stocks, Buy low, Sell high.

A very good source for Mutual Funds is Morningstar.com. Here is a very good tutorial on How to select a Mutual fund:

Hello ay3e: Don't do a thing until you educate yourself, it isn't hard, there are alot of resources on the net...many of the financial websites have tutorials and self help areas devoted to teaching you the basics of investing, try morningstar, vanguard, yahoo finance, msn-investing, and Bob Brinker-educational amoung others...I recently read " The little book of Common sense Investing" by John Bogel...it is excellent. The main thing is to take it slow but take the first step and do it...don't put it off''' its your financial future, Take care.

Hello,

The best way to start is to read as much as possible about security markets in general and mutual funds specifically. Mutual funds can be very good investments if you do the necessarily mutual fund research to find the best mutual funds for you. Some of the factors that I look at are historical mutual fund performance, expenses, consistency and especially the quality of management. I am very selective when it comes to mutual fund manager and analyst backgrounds and experience. You do not necessarily have to pay any more for a highly qualified mutual fund manager, so why not select mutual fund managers with the best credentials. Of course when selecting any investment, it is very important to consider various factors such as your objectives, time horizon, financial circumstances, risk tolerance, etc.

Investopedia.com has several good tutorials on its website for beginners including one on mutual funds. Here is the link:

I hope this helps.
